ABOUT COFFI

Our endeavor is to assist paraplegics and quadriplegics integrate socially by assisting them to become professional, thus becoming independent and responsible citizens.

FOUNDED in 1998 by a group of friends to

*Help disabled individuals realize the dignity and equality they deserve
*Provide transportation for the mobility they require

TODAY THE CIRCLE OF FRIENDS FOUNDATION, INC. (COFFI)

*Offers transportation through the WHEELMOBILE – of particular value to those confined to wheelchairs
*Supports an atmosphere at Tahanang Walang Hagdanan and Pangarap Homes

(Houses Without Steps) where disabled individuals can learn, explore, or develop ways in which they can become self-supporting, participating members of society

WHY A WHEELMOBILE?

*A Wheelmobile means mobility
*With mobility disabled persons have access to workplaces, schools, seminars, shopping areas – so many places and events we take for granted

WHAT IS A WHEELMOBILE?

A modified van. The chassis of a vehicle, such as a KIA or MITSUBISHI L300, is purchased and the back custom fabricated to a height of approximately 1.50 m, allowing access to even very tall persons in wheelchairs. Entry is over a non-slip light weight aluminum ramp capable of holding up to 400 kgs imported from Germany. Once inside, the wheelchair is tightly secured with a locking system to rails installed on the floor. There are two extra doors on either side of the van, both for security and for easy entry and exit. Windows are extra large, providing a good view for both the smallest and the tallest person on board. Our newest van is equipped with a special receptacle for a small oxygen tank.

Funds from those who can afford to pay for the services of a Wheelmobile subsidize those who cannot afford payment.

THE FIRST WHEELMOBILE was purchased in 2003 with funds received from

The Zuellig Foundation raised through their golf tournament. It was the first transportation of this kind ever to appear in the Philippines.

At this writing we are completing – thanks to a generous matching grant from The American Women’s Club of The Philippines (AWCP) our
fourth Wheelmobile.

In addition to mobility, the Wheelmobiles provide the opportunity for the high quality products created by the disabled of Tahanang Walang Hagdanan (TWH), Pangarap Homes and artists in wheelchairs, to reach a wider market. Among these items are:

*Insulated Cooler Bags – Various sizes, designs, and colors
*Table Mats and Coasters
*Aprons and Tea Cozies
*Wooden Toys – Many with moveable parts, painted or plain (Jeepneys, Trains, etc.)

Always remember – ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
